There is a geologic gem located in downtown Ocala known as White Cliff Cave. Although rather small and full of crawly passages, it is one of the
best training caves in the southeast. Cathy Norris and the Marion County Parks and Recreation Department now give tours, educating anyone that wants to learn Florida’s fragile underground while having fun and adventure.
The FSS got together for a combined effort to clean up the old quarry and explore
the cave afterwards. We had several new members come out along with several experienced long time members–extracting over 300 pounds of glass and garbage from the trail area, and making a nice social event.
Thanks to Mike Gordon for bringing
out the spare gear, Clay Parton for being the guide, and Bill Chesley for making sure all the paperwork was in order, along with everyone else that made this such a successful venture.
